united states based design office takebayashi scroggin (d.o.t.s.) has created ’zip tie massimal’
a life size installation made from standard zip ties. designated as a hollow and mesh-like form,
the object is produced at a 1:1 scale to serve as an experimental prototype to engage the public realm.
systematically generated from a singular material, the form is an animal abstraction intended to
mimic a docile petting zoo when joined by other creatures.

the supporting framework and skin is constructed with 20,000 zip ties producing an ephemeral glowing
volume when illuminated. discretely stabilized with a cable suspension system anchored to the ceiling,
the creation attracts visitors and serves as a centerpiece in the atmosphere.

Made Of Pins And Buttons.
Ran Hwang makes use of pins, buttons, crystals, and thread to create elaborate wall art that is beautiful.  The contrast in appearance between a macro and micro perspective is amazing. Thanks 1DPD!

More Walking, Less Driving by DDB China Group:
DDB China Group took over a busy pedestrian crossing and placed a large canvas featuring a leafless tree on the road. On either side of the crossing were sponge cushions soaked in green environmentally-friendly washable and quick dry paint. As pedestrians walked towards the crossing they stepped on the sponges and the soles of their feet made footprints on the tree. Each green footprint added to the canvas like leaves growing on a bare tree. By walking they could create a greener environment. Via.

I am currently obsessing over Joshua Kirsch’s interactive and bizarre sculptures. Check out my two favorites: Sympathetic Resonance, an interactive marimba sculpture and Oculus, an 18-legged structure that pivots in any direction. So fascinating.

Volume at the V&A by United Visual Artists.

For those not familiar with UVA, get wise. These guys put together a range of incredible work, from permanent architectural installations to live perfomance art and music videos and if you’ve not seen the video they did for the Battles tune, Tonto, check it out! Makes me wonder if I’m doing the right degree.
